    On December 16, 2014 Xu Youyu of China won Olof Palme Human Rights Prize for the year 2014. He received the award for his strong-principled work for democracy, social justice, human rights and freedom of speech which has universal meaning. In 2008, he was one of the most evident signatories of Charta 08 manifesto that urged a series of reforms in China. He was Born in 1947 in Beijing, at present, he is a Professor of Philosophy at the Chinese Academy of Social Science.
